About Us

Didcot Bowls Club

Founded in 1969

The club was formed in 1969 with about 30 members, and since 1972 has used the present Didcot bowling green, which was built and maintained by Didcot Town Council. In 1981, at the request of the council, we took over all maintenance of the maximum-size green, using funds from our finances and our own voluntary labour. We are generally acknowledged as having one of the finest and best-maintained seven-rink greens in the area.

In the autumn of 1997, a new clubhouse was built, following a grant of over £103,000 from the sports council National Lottery Fund (Sports England) plus further funds from the district councils. Also, members provided £45,000 in personal loans.

Didcot Bowls Club occupies a prestigious site in the heart of Didcot. The modern, purpose-built clubhouse has excellent facilities for members and visitors.

An initiative involving a local Junior school allows us to provide short mat and outdoor bowling twice weekly. We were the first club in the county to appoint a Youth Officer to the main committee.

With over 100 members of all ages from early teens to those in their ninth decade, Didcot has a thriving membership, and invites you to come along to see our fine facilities.

Learn to bowl and become a member.

Bowling is a fun sport. New members are always welcome, whatever experience or age; bring the whole family.

Coaching can be provided, giving you an insight into the game of bowls.

To protect the green we would ask that you bring flat soled shoes without a heel; we do have a limited supply if required.

We will supply the bowls.
